Cremation FAQ’s
-
Cremation is the process of reducing a body to bone fragments and ash using direct flame and intense heat. The organic matter is consumed, leaving behind what is known as "cremated remains" or "cremains." These remains are extracted, processed and carefully placed into sealed bags to be returned to the family.
-
Our dream for many years was to be able to offer our equine families an affordable and trustworthy cremation service. We decided to be free from the standard pay-by-the-pound process, and make the decision simple and affordable.
Our pricing is based on companion or private cremation, a size category, and includes standard pickup and transportation. How easy is that? Find the size category for your animal on the order form, and you can pay directly online at scheduling.
-
The main difference between private and companion cremation lies in the cremation process and the handling of ashes. In private cremation, the animal is cremated alone, and the ashes are returned to the owner. In companion cremation, the animal is cremated with other animals, and the ashes are not returned. Private cremation ensures individual ashes are received, while companion cremation is more cost-effective but does not provide individual ashes.
-
The only way to offer partial cremation services is to dismember the animal. We do not believe in that. We believe Horses and other large animals deserve the same respect and care as their caretakers.
Our equipment is large enough to fit the largest draft horse, whole. Because of this, we are able to reduce our costs substantially compared to other providers as we don't have the labor and clean up required.
Our clients do have the option to choose how much of their animal's ashes they wish to receive back. If an entire horse is too much, we will provide you the amount you request, and spread the rest in our memorial pasture.
-
HALO ID is a unique identification tag that ensures accurate tracking of animals throughout the cremation process. Each animal receives a unique HALO ID at intake, secured to the body, and is used to maintain detailed records and track the animal from arrival to the return of ashes. This system guarantees that the returned ashes are those of the owner's companion, providing peace of mind and ensuring precise and respectful handling. You will receive your animal's HALO ID with your cremains.
-
Yes! You can divide the ashes whichever way you would like. You can also choose to receive all of the ashes, or just the right amount for your needs.
We offer individual packaging options from a small 3"x4" sealed bag, medium 6"x9" sealed bag, or a large 12"x15" sealed bag. You may choose as many of each size as you'd like on the intake form.
-
All companion cremations will be done with the same care, respect, and dignity as private cremations. However, your animal will be cremated with other companions, making it not possible to return the cremains.
Once the cremation process is completed, the ashes will be processed and spread in our memorial pasture at our facility.
-
Yes, you may include small items such as a toy, card, note, photo or blanket. Any hard iron will be removed before cremation with the exception of our HALO ID tag.
-
YES! Horse&Halo is uniquely equipped to provide pickup and transportation services for our clients. We can transport your deceased animal, or one that you'd like to have euthanized on site at our facility. Since 2020, we have been serving the Colorado Equine community with this service, and we're proud to include pick up with every cremation. Check the map on the intake/order form to determine if pick up is free, or if there is a small charge for your location.
-
Absolutely! If you fall outside of our pick up area, or would prefer to bring the animal yourself, you are welcome to do so. Just make sure to schedule a drop off with us ahead of time.
-
We do not euthanize animals ourselves, but we would love to put you in touch with one of our many vet partners closest to you.
You can bring your horse directly to our facility to be euthanized on site by our fantastic local vet partner, Block & Bridle. This can be an easier way to let them go rather than doing it at your own home.
-
The answer is YES to both. Once you have been notified that your animal's ashes have been processed and are ready for you, you can schedule a time to come pick them up from our facility.
We also have the ability to ship them via special Cremated Remains boxes through USPS, saving you time and a trip to our facility. Choose the option that is best for you on your intake/order form.
-
At Horse&Halo, we want the entire process to be easy for you which is why we offer checkout and payment on our order form. We accept any major credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, and even offer Afterpay (a short term financing option).
We can also bill your cremation through your vet, as long as they are set up with us.
Sorry, we do not accept checks.
